What is Intercultural Management ?

Intercultural management is the combination of knowledge, insights and skills which are necessary for adequately dealing with national and regional cultures and differences between cultures, at the several management levels within and between organisations

An executive assignment in Spain may be for one year or ten however long it is, he/she will settle in more quickly and feel more at home if he/she knows something about the country, its history, geography and people. Taking part in BRS Cross Cultural Training Programme is an essential part of this learning process and an effective way to invest in the executives future.

Why would an executive need this?

Several researchers have proved that standardised universal organisational structures and/or management methods are not feasible, and that one should take into account the influence of national cultural differences on the design of organisational structures and how the management styles are affected by this.

Because of mergers and international cooperation, but also because of migration flows, which lead to multicultural societies, companies and institutions will more and more have to take into account the foreign personnel, foreign laws and foreign market parties. The executive needs those skills to deal with a range of persons who have been influenced by another background, education, training and culture. A culture, at least, in which one can recognise similarities as well as differences with ones own culture.

In other words, when an executive inadequately represents a company in other countries and/or practices intercultural management inadequately in an international cooperation, this will damage the reliability of this executive and also harms the trustworthiness of the company. Thus, the behavior of executives can have far-reaching consequences
